It's Official -- The Archdocese Approves Opening of Regional High School on South Hill

The NDCHS (Northern Deanery Catholic High School) has recently announced that the archbishop has now officially approved the establishment of a “temporary” high school in the Sacred Heart parish hall, beginning September 2027.

This decision was expected back in March, so there has clearly been some delay in the process. Still, it is continuing.

We are now waiting to hear if the Bellingham Planning Department will require a public hearing concerning the use of the Sacred Heart parish hall (14th Street and Knox Avenue) as a temporary school. The archdiocese has requested that this significant change in building usage be exempted from a public hearing, but the city is requiring more documentary justification for that request to be approved

NDCHS (remember this abbreviation, because it is going to come up for years) is keeping all options open for building a new school, including potentially on the Sacred Heart parking lot. Of course, our main concern is the building of a new school facility in a residential community. That will be a multi-year process to develop, but we want to monitor every aspect.
